"Snoop K-R-U-double P got a soft spot for them rabbits. Pet one of them cotton tails 'n' now it's turned into a habit," Lorcan sings very sweetly into the microphone like an indie darling doing an acoustic cover of the song.
"YEAAAAHHHHH!" Freddie cries out like a hype man and throws his hands in the air, hopping around kinda-sorta to the beat. "Those bunnies are soft as hell!!"
He stops and puts his head next to Lorcan's and holds the mic between them. "Now we're gonna slow it down for a minute—tell me about the softest bunny you've ever pet."
"My name is Logan Goldstein," he says in his very authentic American accent that's regionally a little hard to place. Lorcan is not an actor but it's important to establish his character. It'll make Rose happy, anyway.
He presses his cheek against Freddie's as he sing-speaks into the mic. This is not part of the song and he's not sure if he's supposed to sing it or say it so he's doing both.
"The soOooftest bunny I've everrr pet has to be the Luuunar Rabbit. It feeeels-- oohh, it feeels-- like running your hand through moondust. -- Have you everrr dipped your haaands in a bowl of flour? SooOofter than that."
If this is the wrong thing to do, Freddie doesn't show it. In fact, he loves and supports everything you're doing here, Mr. Goldstein. He whoops in approval and does a little shimmy to Lorcan's story-song.
"Friends and countrymen, please put your hands together for LOGAN GOLDSTEEEEIN!" Freddie calls out his name like a wrestling announcer. This is his show now and you're all forced to attend. Now clap, bitches. "Any requests for the next song, Mr. Goldstein? Any—" he waggles his eyebrows "—dedications?"
Lorcan-- Logan's got a stupid, giddy little smile on his face when Freddie announces his name, and he gives a sheepish wave to the partygoers. Yes! That's him!
"Ah-- um... Let's see..." His eyes wander and he takes a moment to puzzle this very important decision through. Finally: "I'd like to dedicate Garth Squonk's Much Too Young (To Die Under Mysterious Circumstances) to the late Mr. Willoughby Sprout."
Freddie places a hand on his chest. "Oh, Mr. Willoughby, gone too soon, snuffed out in his prime," he laments, eyes shining with what could be a mournful light, and a moment of silence rings out through the lobby. Maybe it's in honor of the dearly departed building manager. Maybe it's because Freddie forgot to hit play.
"Anyway." Freddie slams that play button and the spell is immediately broken by the strings of a steel guitar. "When the maaaaan on the traaaaain breathes his last breath," he sings along. Do these lyrics seem strangely prescient to anyone else? "It's tiiiime for a dooooog to find who caused his death."
