"Corrie!" Albus remembers now that their birthdays always fell close together at Hogwarts, which means... "You're a Sagittarius, right? Not asking because I believe in astrology at all, in case that's part of the dating criteria."
"Perfect!" Albus crosses off the square on his card. "Any of those I can help you with? Whoever put my card together was an absolute monster." He turns his card to show Corrie the corner square that reads: THINKS CATCHING THE SNITCH SHOULD BE WORTH MORE POINTS.
"Only maniacs could think that," Corrie says, shaking her head. Who came up with these things? "Bad news, by the way: your cousin's a maniac."
Tapping her fingers as she skims the card, she knows it's here somewhere - there. "I'm marking you as lived in another country," she informs him. "Because duh. How many was it anyway? Can you even remember?"
Albus gasps. "Which cousin? Dominique? I swear, Seekers are sick and twisted people." Still, if he can get this corner square checked off, then he's that much closer to being done with this...
He makes a thoughtful hmm. "I had a little map in my journal where I coloured in countries, but then I lost the whole thing while going over the ocean. Long story. Lots, in any case. I didn't stay anywhere for longer than a month. What about you? What's the highlights in The Corrie Pye Story?"
Corrie's mouth twists. "Nah, I don't think I've even seen her. It was the new bloke, Hugo. He's... interesting? Did a fork trick, too." She doesn't sound annoyed but she's definitely a wee bit baffled.
"My story's pretty short, compared. Can't remember when you left exactly, were you around when I signed with the Falcons? Mum was pissed, did that two years, lived in a place of my gran's, traded to Wigtown. Ta-da," she finishes, making jazz hands.
Hugo Weasley, a natural ladies' man. Albus makes a mental note to talk to his cousin later about this "fork trick." Keep the girls guessing, and all that.
"Right, I remember the Falcons," Albus lies. In truth, he'd been a bit of a mess that summer, but it would make him a real jerk not to have noticed something as huge as Corrie signing with Falmouth and pissing off her mum. Albus tilts his head a little, considering this unembellished story (not Portree?), and opts for the neutral response. "Wigtown's a decent team, congrats. Even better now with you on the starting lineup, yeah?"
"Wigtown's fun, and so fam-friendly it's a nice change from Falmouth," she agrees. "Totally different style of play, but they're really welcoming so that's been nice." It's a fair assessment, even cheerful, but not a passionate one, and it comes out so smoothly she's doubtless given it before.
"So you're actually back back, then? Since you've moved in and all?"
Albus notes Corrie's casual tone, and accepts the change of subject. "Sure. It was about time, you know? Even Albus Potter has to get serious eventually." His mouth twistsβa smile with a touch of ironyβbut he doesn't seem too upset about it. It was about time. "Also, this could be the start of a great story. 'I was invited to live in a mysterious building, and by the time we realized it was a demented Dark ritual, it was far too late to save my family from the chicken cult.'"
