No. This is the first time. I'm lucky I didn't lose an eye.

That's what happened to Otakar Sevcik. Supposedly.

I'm going to guess that's a big name in the violin community and based on that I have a few more questions.

Are there other stories about what happened? If so are they exciting? And is that a really metal way for a violinist to lose an eye or would it be nerdy?

Sevcik was a violinist and instructor whose methods focused on technique, precision, and deconstruction. A lot of instructors still use his exercises. There aren't many better tools out there, in my opinion.

The other story is that he had to have it enucleated because of an illness. But the E string story is certainly the more exciting version and it persists, so who knows. [...] I'm not a good judge of what's metal.

Oh, definitely a big name then. And you're a perfect judge of what's metal for violinists. It's like, would that make it almost like a battle scar?

If it broke while you playing it, I suppose it would be. But if it broke while you were tuning it, I think that's another story. [...] I'd prefer to keep both eyes regardless, though.
